THESE NATIONAL PARKS ARE THE CHEAPEST TO FLY TO, ACCORDING TO A NEW REPORT

And most are in California.

Outdoor enthusiasts looking to save on their next trip national park trip need to look no further.

A new report from flight price tracking service Going reveals that some parks are cheaper to fly to than others due to their location and surrounding airports.

The cheapest National Park to fly to is Indiana Dunes National Park, which has four nearby airports that travelers can choose to fly into, including Chicago O'Hare, Chicago Midway, and Indianas' South Bend Regional Airport, and Gary/Chicago International Airport.

The second cheapest National Park to snag a flight deal is Yosemite National Park in California. Travelers can choose to fly into San Francisco International, San José International, Sacramento, Oakland, and other regional airports. 

Here’s the full ranking of the top 10 cheapest national parks for flights:

  1. Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana
  2. Yosemite National Park, California
  3. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, California
  4. Glacier National Park, Montana
  5. Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio
  6. Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky
  7. Lassen Volcanic National Park, California
  8. Pinnacles National Park, California
  9. Channel Islands National Park, California
  10. Joshua Tree National Park, California

Throughout the summer, there are several flight deals to national parks including from New York to Bozeman, Montana where travelers can visit Yellowstone or Glacier National Park for only $251 round-trip, according to a spokesperson for Going.

Visits to national parks have been on the rise, with over 325 million recreational visits to national parks in 2023, according to a release from the National Park Service. Several parks including Glacier Bay, Joshua Tree, and Mojave broke visitation records.

“Our national parks tell our shared American story. I'm glad visitors are finding hidden gems, exploring in the off-season and finding new ways to have a great time in our national parks,” National Park Service Director Chuck Sams said in the release. 

For travelers looking to save even more, Going recently released a new mobile app that is available on iOS or Android. The app provides alerts on discounted flights, and other airfare deals.
