J-K LANDSLIDE: ATLEAST 50 HOUSES DAMAGED, ROAD CONNECTIVITY SNAPPED AFTER LAND CAVES IN RAMBAN

Ramban Landslide Update: Land in the Pernote area of Jammu-Kashmir's Ramban caved in causing damage to atleast 50 houses, four electricity towers and a vital road, officials said on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday in Pernote village which is located five kilometres from the district headquarters. Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary, the deputy commissioner, visited the affected area early on Friday morning.

On Thursday night, houses began to show cracks and the vital road connecting Gool and Ramban broke as the land sank, making things worse.

Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-ul-Haq said that 30 houses got damaged in the initial stage and later 20 more got affected.

“We are shifting the affected families to the safer places and the administration is making arrangements for food and other related stuff for the affected families,” he said.

He went on to say that losses are being evaluated and that work will soon be ensured in order to restore essential services.

DC Ramban added that a group of geologists will evaluate the circumstances and take the necessary action to prevent significant losses.

To help the impacted people move their possessions out of the damaged homes, local volunteers came together with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.

As part of the crisis management efforts, the Gool subdivision's connection to the district headquarters was reestablished via the activation of a detour via Sumber-Digdoal.
