3 RAIN-IMPACTED DUBAI METRO STATIONS TO RESUME OPERATIONS ON MAY 19

Good news, metro users!
When the UAE was hit with record-breaking rainfall and severe floods last month in April, four Dubai Metro stations – OnPassive, Equiti, Mashreq, and Energy Metro stations had to close due to rain damage. Dubai Metro users waited eagerly for the reopening announcement and Dubai’s RTA stated operations would be restored by May 28, 2024.
But we have just got the good news from RTA that three out of the four Dubai Metro stations will resume operations much sooner, on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority took to social media platform X to make the announcement.
The statement reads ‘Dubai Metro service will resume at Onpassive, Equiti, and Mashreq stations as of 19th May’. It added that ‘Energy Metro Station is scheduled to return to service next week’.
RTA also added, ‘All necessary maintenance and testing jobs have been completed to ensure the stations’ full operational readiness and that they meet all safety requirements to provide the highest level of secure and smooth service to the public.’

UAE experiences the heaviest rainfall in 75 years
The Dubai Metro was impacted due to the heavy rainfall on April 16, 2024 – which according to the National Centre of Meteorology, was the heaviest rainfall in 75 years.
Surpassing anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949, it’s the most rainfall ever recorded in 24 hours, as per NCM. The record rainfall was accounted for between 9pm on Monday, April 15 and 9pm on Tuesday, April 16. Further rainfall was recorded after 9pm the following night on Tuesday.
